Powell took on employment law’s “case of the year” in 2016, defending the worker’s rights of 19 Uber drivers.
SUMMARY
|
In recent years there has been a real attack, particularly for the low paid. Companies are proclaiming their employees as self-employers. This is known as bogus self-employment strategies. This means that the workers are not entitled national minimum wage, sick leave or holiday pay. Companies like Uber and Deliveroo revolutionized a new era of tech start-ups. And around it, an ideology has grown around it that allows others to dismiss workers’ rights. Our aim is to challenge this narrative and challenge this ideology. We believe that technology can succeed without exploiting workers’ rights and breaking the rules.
